The internet is full of tools to make your internet marketing business successful. E-mail, search engines, social media, blogs, forums, and everything from start to finish. One powerful tool at your disposal is YouTube and other online video platforms.

Videos can be more effective at communicating content than articles. Obviously, I’m a big fan of video blogging because I don’t actually enjoy writing. I also feel I connect with my viewers better through video, and I can get my point across better through video. People surfing the web are also much more inclined to watch a video, opposed to read a long article.

Here are 12 tips/thoughts/ whatever to help you better utilize videos in your online marketing.

1. You want to keep videos short and sweet. I know I’m bad sometimes about rambling on in videos, but i do try to be entertaining. the problem is if the video gets boring, dry or drags on too much, the viewer is going to stop it and move on to something else…possibly someone else. You want to keep your message short and entertaining. If you need to make a longer video because the depth of the information calls for it, consider making a multi-part video instead. That way viewers can digest the information in smaller amounts.

2. Titles are important! Titles need to contain the keyword phrase you are targeting. They also need to be appealing and attractive. When faced with thousands of options, you want viewers to chose your videos to watch.

3. Post your videos frequently and consistently. Further, you can kill two birds with one stone if you write an article for every video on the same topic. Basically you’re matching a short video with a long and detailed article in the event a viewer wants more information. Post a matching link into your description to make the article easy to find.

4. On that note, make sure all of your videos have a link to your homepage in general. Make it easy to navigate to your website and all of your social media pages. You want viewers to subscribe so encourage them to by making it easy.

5. Make sure you have good lighting. Too dark or too light and potential viewers will simply hit the back button. And don’t forget to edit your videos. Your rough draft should never be on the internet unless you’re just that talented. Also make sure there is nothing too distracting behind you….no dancing bears or streakers.

6. At the beginning and ending of your videos, make sure you introduce yourself, say your name, and what website you’re representing. Remember to smile, have fun, and sound confident. You’ll have much greater success and get more traffic, likes, shares, retweets and exposure.

7. Thumbnails will get the attention of your potential viewers faster than a rocking title. YouTube lets you use three thumbnails in three different locations. Choose wisely and your thumbnails could greatly strengthen your content.

8. Captions are another useful tool at your disposal. Use them during your video to highlight a main point, important fact, or just as a method of entertainment. Captions also provide another outlet for search engine optimization to work its magic.

9. Use your various social media pages and websites to advertise your videos. Network your social media, your website, and your YouTube videos through the use of backlinks to make it fast and easy to navigate all of your content quickly and effectively.

10. Work with other popular blogs and comment with links to your videos. Make sure they are relevant and on topic. Similarly to commenting on blogs, you want to show people who see your comment that you actually watched the video you are commenting on.

11. Encourage interaction between yourself and your viewing community. Reply to comments and questions promptly to show you care. It makes your viewers feel special and increases the likelihood of them subscribing to your YouTube channel at the minimum.

12. With every video or article, always have a call to action. You’ve just given them all of this rich content. Now what do they do with it? Tell them what you want them to do. Don’t leave them to imagine or ponder. Be direct. At the minimum, ask them to subscribe to your e-mail list.

These tips are designed to guide you in improving your YouTube and video skills. It’s a practice so experiment, take risks, and grow better with every video.
